TALLOW, APPLES, HEMP, ETC. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. , • The Department of Agriculture has received the following ' cablegram dated August 16, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: —
Tallow. —The spot market remains steady with fair demand at aucjtion, 1250 packages ibeing offered and 751 sold. Present quotations are:—Mutton: Fine, 31/ per cwt; fair to good, 27/ to 29/; dark to dull, 25/ to 26/. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed, 29/ to 35/; fair to good, 26/ to 28/6; dark to dull, 23/6 to 25/; mixed, fair to good, 26/ to 28/; dark to dull, 23/6 to 25/. Gut, etc., 22/6 to 26/. Apples.—The market is very dull. Current prices for New Zealand are: Sturmers, 7/ to 10/ a case; Delicious, 6/ to ill/, condition variable; Dougherty, 9/ to,ll/. American: Gravenstein, 8/6 to 9/. English apples in increasing quantity are selling cheaply. Hemp.—The Manila market is easier/ 'but fair-.business has been done. J grade August-October ■ shipment sold in the middle of the week at £21 15/ and at the end of the week down to £21. The output of Manila from January 8 to August 4 was 837,000 bales, against 965,000 for the same period last year. Stocks in Manila on July 31 were 140,000 bales, against 187,000 at the same time last year; etocke in England, 19,491 "bales, against 13,285 last year., Sisal: African is easier owing to the absence of trade support. At the close No. 1 good marks, August-October shipments, was quoted by sellers at £22 15/; fair average quality, £22 5/. Mexican: Co-operative sold 220,000 bales to America, shipment from August to June at equivalent, of £23 10/ c.i.f., Europe. New' Zealand': The market continues dull and depressed. .No first-hand sales are reported.* Wool. —The Bradford market is quiet. Crossbred tops are moving in small weights wdth prices slightly in favour of buyers; Present quotations for tops are: 56's, 1/7 ■per lb; 40'e, prepared, others, unchanged. ,- , •

At Bradford business is quiet, with quotations firmly maintained. WHEAT CARGOES, ETC. 4 . (Received 12.30 p.m.) , LONDON, August 18. Wheat cargoes are dull, with sellers willing to accept lower terms. Parcels are inactive, and have eased threepence to sixpence. Futures:—London: September deliveries, 33/8. per quarter; December, 34/2. Liverpool: September, 7/1% per cental; December, 7/2; March, 7/2%.
