Toxeuma "will probably make liis next appearance at' the Wanganui spring meeting, where he is engaged in the New Zealand Eclipse Stakes. If started in that-event he Should take a lot of-beat-ing after his sterling performance in the Winter; Cup at Riccarton.
Ivarapoti had only' two starts as a two-year-old Jast season, "winning- the Ruakura Stakes, five furlongs, ■at the JVaikato spring meeting, wJiicii .was his last effort. Ho is engaged in the Sylvia Park Handicap, .seven furlongs, at EllersHβ next Saturday, and if capable-- of running out the distance should show to advantage. . ■ :• ■
. Poll o' tho.Year has.arrived fromGisborne to fulfil her engagement, in , ' the Ladies'. Bracelet at Ellerslie next Saturday. This mare won the Hunters' Bracelet ut the Poverty Bay. Hunt Club meeting on August 12, an event she. was also successful .in winning the pear previous. J. Nixon has the daughter of.Autumn and Serbia looking in first-class condition and she should give a good account (jf lierself at the Pakuranga meeting.
Last season Flying , Prince scored an easy win in the Dunedin Handicap, but since then Iris only success lias been in the President's Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at Taumarunui.j At his last start he finished fourth in the President's Handicap, six furlongs, at the Waipa winter meeting last month, but he will have to do a lot better to have a chance in the field opposed to him on Saturday.
Prince of Orange ran second to Havering in the Onslow Handicap, six furlongs, at Trcntham last month, which was his last start. Ho is engaged in the Dunedin Handicap, six furlongs, at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting next Saturday, and as he has had a good deal of racing recently .and, is well seasoned he may bo see,-to-advantage in this event.- - <■"'
Among those engaged in the Dunedin Handicap is Royal RulerJ'./who proved himself an exceptionally smart juvenile •last spring.' He had only four races last season, winning the Nursery Handicap at Avondalo and the Welcome Stakes at Ellerslie. He was not started again till the Auckland, summer meeting, wherihe raivunplaced in:the'Great Northern Foal Stakes, and has not v sported silk since itfreiv Ho has; wintered well and'is reported to be shaping in his best style at Te Awamutu.
The Sun raced well at the Waipa meeting, running second to Cruachan in the Hairini Handicap, six furlongs. He was , then taken to the Wellington whiter meeting and ran fourth in the Handicap, seven, furlongs,; .on the' first High-weight Handicap, one mile s and five furlongs,'ofr the secttnd day,'and'won the , Crofton'Hack Handicap, seven furlongs, on the concluding day. He is engaged in the Sylvia Park Handicap, seven furlongs, at the ■ forth'"cbmiiig Pakuranga meeting, and would ■only ha've tip repeat his recent form' to be to beat.
'■• "'Sfc' Warrigal has been paid tip for in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup Steeplechase cin" Saturdays next. This horse ran well at •th'e Great Northern meeting. He' was third !! in' the Greenlane Steeplechase, about two miles and a half, while; ; he filled a similar position in the Tarnaki Steeplechase, run over a similar distance. He next started at the Waipa meeting' "and''accounted for the Hunters Steeplechase, about two' miles and a'lialf, beating Luccss, Spalpiko,' Mashoor ■' and others. He has been steadily improving all the time, and as he is a proficient jumper he should be hard to beat. _
■'" Rosshire was : only started on , four occasions last season, and his two-test efforts were at the Wellington winter meeting, where he finished second to Coon Son* in the Trial Plate, five furlongs, on the second day, and on the final day was narrowly beaten by Gowan Lea in=the Novice Handicap, six furlongs. He has not raced since, but is reported to have done well in the interim. Rosshire•■will have his next 'start 'in the- Auckland Handicap, one mile, at' Ellefslie |mxt Saturday, and, judging by his efforts at Wellington, he looks as thoiugh he' will stay out the distance all Tight.
At Kcmpton Park on August 13 (says a cable to the Sydney "Herald") the August Plate was won by Baytown, -fono beat Strephon XL .Four started. Considerable interest was ehown in Strephon It's appearance. The "Morning Post racin" expert eays that the horse wore an improved appearance, but was. etiU lacking in'muscle. Mr. Sol. Green-ad-mitted before the race that the horse was not at hie top form. Strephon 11. at'once went to the front,'and he continued to make the running to the straight, but Bavtown took command three furlongs from thef post, and though, the Australian crack ran generously, he .Was b?atcn by a couple of lengths. ,_
Laughing Prince commenced last, season by winning the Flying .Handicap, six furlongs, at the Wanganui spring meetiiiff and accounting for the Eclipse Stakes on the second day. He then.went amiss and was not raced till the nui winter , meteing,, when he ran fourth in the Borough Handicap, six furlongs, and finished second to Melissa m -tfte Winter Oats Handicap, of similar distance. He accounted for the Huia Handicap, six furlongs, at Otaki "\_June,, and has riot raced since then, but he,, is eno-aged in the Flying Handicap and the Eclipse Stakes ■ at the forthcoming Waiigajmi spring meeting. ..
• Phar Lap may be,galloped on the B o rass track at Randwick on off mornjngs .On August 12, (eaye the A.J.C. 'veterinary surgeon, Mr., Koy Stewart, was called in to examine, an ininry reported on, tho oft fore-leg when Pilar Lap met with an accident while bein" led in u.street. Mr. Stewart.subsequently stated that the injury was ;m the nature' of aiV abrasion; and thatiie had issued a certificate for Phar Lap to use the track. Through common practice the fact .that a-certificate, was issued fora horse,-to use.the track',on "off" mornings means that 1 the' animal is .on the injured list. So far as Phar Lap is concci'nedv however, , the granting of" the certificate does not give a reason .the presumption, that the gelding's injury approaches a serious nature. Rather ;it would appear that permission to use the track could,- in such circumstances, be hbtsf siUle harm- through' using the tan track or other rinks on "off" morninge.
