HAS NOT YET RESIGNED.
DIRECTOR-GENERAL OP HEALTH. .SUPERANNUATION PROBLEM. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. Though it has heen -stated that the Minister of Health, Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, has received intimation from Dr. T. H. A. Valintine that he wishes to resign his post as Director-General of Health at the end of August, Dr. Valintine has not resigned. It is understood that the question is now under discussion of granting Dr. Valintine some form of pension or retiring allowance. He has never been a member of the superannuation fund, and his is a professional appointment. However, if the Director-General is granted such an allowance it will create a precedent, and the Government appears to be doubtful of the wisdom of taking such a step. Dr. C. J. Reakes, Director of the Department of Agriculture is due to retire shortly, and if his appointment is not renewed for a further term, as a professional post may be renewed, he also will be eligible for a retiring allowance, .as his position is understood to be similar to that of Dr. Valintine.
