WANGANUI, Saturday.

The weather was perfect for the Rugby representative match between Aucklnnrt 25 Wanganui. There was a good attend-

One rush by the Northerners was well stopped by. Thompson, who broke away to midfield with a clever swerving run. Wanganui carried on the rush to inside the Auckland twenty-five. Pretty cutting in by Morgan and then by Lowe was followed by Morgan securing and potting a great goal. When play was resumed Connelly maue a dash down the line, but Thompson upended him at the local twenty-five. The Aucklanders kept up the pressure, and a neat bit of passing enabled Berridge to score, but he was unsuccessful with the slot at goal. Fumbling by Leahy let rhe Aucklanders away to inside the local twenty-five, but they were driven back by the Wanganui forwards. Auckland's backs broke away with a dangerous rush, but a good tackle by Morgan brought Jones down when a score seemed certain. Half-time then sounded with the score: Wanganui 8 Auckland .' 6 Changing ends, the Aucklanders started off in lively fashion, only good tackling by Thompson stopping them. However, the visitors were not to be denied, Corner, Solomon and Knight participating in a passing rush, and Knight raced over to score a fine try. Corner goaled, and Auckland led by 11 points to 8. , Wanganui invaded the Auckland twentyfive, and Leahy tried to force his way oyer, but ' was penalised for hanging on. The northerners soon had Wanganui on defence again. From a scrum Corner sent the ball to Haslam, Jamieson, Berridge -and Jones, who • showed speed and went across near the corner. Berridge missed the goal. Auckland 14, Wanganui 8. Wanganui livened up, a combined effort beating the visitors back to near their own line. Duncan and then Morgan were almost. over, and Byres later made a big effort, but the defence was sound. The visitors cleared their line after a hard fight. Corner made a good opening and let Jones away, but he was grassed. Pretty work by the Auckland ■ backs let Jones away again, but he N was brought down near the line. Leahy dashed clear, but had not speed enough and was grassed. A. clever run by Jamieson put the Wanganui line in danger, but his pass went astray. The Auckland forwards were now combining better, and then the backs were handling well, Corner doing good work behind the scrum. A fast swerving run by Jamieson would have ended in a score, but for a knock-on. Duncan was playing splendidly for Wanganui, but faulty handling by his supports spoilt several rushes. Getting the ball from the scrums, the Aucklanders were feeding Jones, and he made three or four spectacular dashes in quick succession, but could not get over. Good play by Potaka beat the Aucklanders back to their twenty-five line. Wanganui tried a passing rush but could not pierce the defence. Lockett and Stewart wore prominent in a rush to near the line. Splendid tackling by Potaka stopped an Auckland onslaught. A knock-on by Bush on the Auckland line gave Wanganui a chance, but the northern forwards used their weight to good effect, taking play to midfield. Another Wanganui rush put Auckland on defence, and, Duncan, Walden and Lo"ckett indulged in some good passing, but the visitors held them out. ' The game ended with the scores :-- Auckland 14 • Wanganui ■ S FINLAY CUP RETAINED. MORRINSVILLE, Saturday. By defeating Mataniata by B—6, Morrinsville retained the Finlay Cup, which they won from Waipa, at Te Awamutu, on the-previous Saturday. It was anybody's game right up to the end, and a draw would have been a better indication of the run of play. Both sides kicked a penalty goal and scored a try, tout Morrinsville's was converted.

Qiatamata had the best of play until half-time. ,On resuming, the Morrinsville forwards dominated play, but from half-way Fausett, the Matamata wing three-quarter, secured and ran down the line to beat the home lull-toack and score a spectacular try in the corner, which was not converted. Mor-nnsville-rushed play to the other end and a series of scrums near the Matamata posts ended in Robinson, scoring. Mcßae converted, making the scores: Morrinsville 8, Matamata 6.
