■ ■ BARMAN AND DRINKERS. STRANGE VICTORIAN INCIDENT. SYDNEY, July 24. Rivalry between hotelkeepers in Victoria is.carried to considerable lengths, as witness an incident at the week-end. At the interval during the football match at the Carl -on ground on Saturday, when the bar of the ground hotel was crowded with thirsty barrackers, & nauseating gas was released in such volume that the place was cleared in a few seconds. "• • : The licensee, Mr. Charles Orr, is president of the newly-formed Hotelkeepers' Association of Victoria, which embraces 200 licensees, all of whom sell Richmond beer. v Those outside the association cannot obtain supplies of this beverage, a particularly popular one with Victorian drinkers. Seven of the ten barmen in the hotel a.t the time were affected by the fumes. One of them had noticed a man enter and sprinkle some liquid on the floor a I few seconds before the nauseating gas first showed its effect. The nature of the gas is not known, but .the police are investigating. ,*
