NAME NOT SUPPRESSED.
"DOES NOT LIE IN YOUR MOUTH."
RETORT BY CHIEF JUSTICE.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, Friday.
Thomas Alphonsus O'Brien, aged 24, was to-day placed on probation for three years on six charges of forgery. He' asked for the suppression of his name. The Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, replied, "I quite recognise that the publication of your name may be very distressing and possibly injurious to other people, but it does not lie in your mouth to ask that your name be suppressed. You should have thought of that earlier." His Honor was hesitant about placing accused on probation, but he had a recommendation to do so not only from the probation officer, but from the police and Crown Prosecutor.
