AUCKLAND'S FESTIVAL.

REVIVAL OF GOOD MUSIC.

SINGING BY MASSED CHOIR.

As a fitting prelude to the-series of musical programmes arranged for Music Week, a,civic concert will be given in the Auckland Town Hall next Saturday evening. During the following week there will .be a great festival of music. Every evening orchestras and choirs that have been training assiduously for weeks past will gave programmes of choral and instrumental music. Over 600 men and women, and 1500 boys and girls will be heard during Music Week. It is the most ambitious effort of its kind Auckland has known. Thirty voluntary workers are included in the controlling committee, and t(he demand for tickets gives good ground for the belief that the success of the effort is largely guaranteed. In one case a block of tickets valued at £25 has been taken and in several others "individual"-purchasers, have taken £15 worth. ', Actually the cost of attending each of the .concerts is only 6d, but the tickets are distributed in the form of a dozen coupons, at a total cost of 6/, each coupon giving admission i to. one concert. This is a gesture by the committee to attract the public by popular prices. '; Every day from Monday to Friday, during Music Week, community singing will be held in the Town Hall from 12.30 to 1.30, and on the Wednesday and Thursday, August 20 and 21, there will be afternoon concerts. Several concerts will also be held in the Lewis Eady Hall, and on the' Sundays, at the beginning and end of the festival, the church choirs will give special music and the sermons will have, a reference to music. Mr. Colin Muston will conduct 'on three occasions and will-'be.in charge of the main part of ' the ..festival. Other conductors who will carry out individual programmes are Mr. Maughan Barnett, city organist; Mr. Christopher Smith, municipal bandmaster; Dr. W. E. Thomas, Mr. G. Lee, Mr. Howard Moody, Mr. E.
