COMMUNITY SINGING.
SONG- LEADERS' RIVALRY,
A crowd estimated to exceed 2000 enjoyed the community singing yesterday at the Town Hall. The song leader, Mr. Drew, showed much ability in getting the best from his big choir. Mr. Drew was assisted by, Mrs. Barrington Snow at the piano, and Messrs. Garland and Don on wind instruments. Mr. John Row 6 gave a humorous song in costume, arid a regular- attendant, a lady of eighty years of age, referred t6 as "Aunt Mary," sang "Juanita" in a clear, musical voice. ■ * During the session Mr. Drew referred to the collection about to be taken up, and said that the total net amount was devoted to charity. He further mentioned the friendly rivalry between song leaders to secure the highest total, the position of honour being held by Uncle Topi. Finding that the collection for the day had not achieved the expected result, he invited the audience to con- - tribute the needed balance by throwing coins on the stage. The shower of coins which resulted nmounted to 5W and placed the song leader at the head of the list.
