TAICAPUNA BOROUGH.
The Mayor, Mr. J. W. Williamson, presided over last niglit's meeting oC the Takapuna Borough Council. Grammar School Sewerage.—The Auckland Grammar School Board wrote asking the council when it would be possible to connect the Takapuna Grammar School with the main sewerage system. The acting-borough engineer reported that the estimated cost was £1484 7/. The council decided to proceed with the work. The Mayor remarked that it would relieve economic distress, and that the council had adequate funds for the purpose. Airport Scheme.—Messrs. Bryce Hart and A. H. Wilkie reported on the recent local bodies' conference concerning an airport for Auckland. It was resolved to defer consideration of the matter until a concrete proposal had been advanced. Surf Club.—A deputation from the Takapuna Surf Club waited upon the council to request the continuation of the tenancy of the council's kiosk at the foot of the Strand. The deputation was assured that the club could remain in possession until May 8, when the present council would leave office, and that, if necessary after that date, the council would provide them with accommodation. Payment of Rates. —The town clerk, Mr. H. L. Bowden, reported that during the month of July, rates amounting to £22,162 1/7, which represented 53.86 per cent of the total amount struck, had been collected. The borough's finances were now in a most satisfactory position.
