(By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.")
CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday.
All work at Addington is at present being done on the cinder track. The raco track has not been open for some time owing to the wet weather, and the training track is too wet for faet work. The Scottish trainer J. Young is expected to arrive in the Dominion on Tuesday with fivo horses. He has secured the etables adjoining W. J. Tomkinson s and lately occupied by C. Tasker. His eon, R. Young, u r as for some time with Mr. J. R. McKenzie, but will join his father on arrival here. J. Shaw arrived during the week with the- pacer Warplane, who with Native Prince will represent the Aucklander at tho coming meeting. The pacers were given useful work on the cinders yesterday, both going without the hopples. Warplane looks in good form, and Native Prince, who has been under the care of D. Bennett, is also well forward. After the meeting Shaw will take the two pacers back to race at meetings in Auckland. Logan's Pride, who was one of the successes of last season, has arrived at Addington to take part at the meeting, which commences next Saturday. The Wellington-trained pacer looks in good shape. Another recent arrival to take part at the coming meeting is the Blenheimowned trotter Ukulele Lady, who has previously raced well at Addington. Although R. B. Berry is out of the hospital he will not be well enough to drive hie horses at the coming meeting. A. Bryce has been engaged by Messrs. G. McMillan and D. R. Revell, who have horses in Berry's stable, to do the driving. On the first day Bryco will drive Jean McElwyn, Sunshower and the trotter White Satin.
A. Cox is giving the three-year-old Todcl Lonzia just enough work to keep him in good condition. In about a month he will send the youngster along at a faster clip and race him at early spring meetings. Todd Lonzia is funnelling into a commanding horse, and with his speed he should soon win a race. Kelp has furnished into a powerfullooking pacer, and lie is in fine health. J. Kennerley has not hurried the Wrack gelding, who, if he remains sound, should soon bo a stake winner. Kelp showed a lot of promise as a three-year-old. F. Gallaclier, who trains Nourmahal and John Mauritius, met vpth a painful accident on Friday. When coming to the course in the morning, which was very foggy, he was knocked clown by a motor cyclist. He injured one of his wrists and broke a collarbone. Aleron seems to have thrown off a lot of his lameness, and he is pacing in good style in his work on the cinders at Aldington. J. Thomson was at Addington on Friday with a four-year-old mare by Rey de Oro from the dam of Jean Logan. She hag just been put into work. Maringa is going on well in her training work, and this useful pacer may pick up a sprint race early in the season. Tho trotter New Metford is. in fine shape to commence the new season, and is bowling along in his work as if he enjoyed it. IST. L. Price has improved the Rey do Oro trotter a good deal during the last few months. 6. McKendry has Belinda going in her best style at present. She is a very promising young pacer, who should be seen to advantage in two-mile events. Pageant seems to have taken a new lease of life, and he is going very well in his training work. He is quite at home on heavy tracks. J. J. Kennerley is working the pacer Grey Cloud in saddle. He is a hard puller* and is best in sprint events. Repeta Mac is being given a lot of useful work, and the Petcreta trotter is moving iri improved form. She was given a smart workout on the cinders, and trotted really well.
