TIMARU, Saturday

The officers and non-commissioned officers of the Canterbury Regiment, at a meeting decided to maintain the organisation under the conditions laid down by the Cabinet, the fixed idea being a whole-hearted endeavour once again to bring the force to a state of efficiency. They consider the suspension of compulsory service, with the resulting disintegration of units, to be a disastrous step, and urge that a commission be set up to go into defence matters.
