WAIKATO HORSES.

A. TINKER'S BIG TEAM. SEVERAL YOUNGSTERS HANDY PREPARING FOR NEW SEASON. The biggest team which will be in work at T© Rapa this season will ba that of A. Tinker. Of the horses in his stable Valuation, Meryette, Imamint, King Val, Stonehenge, Monetize, Page Boy, Super Ruler, King Win, Kaha and Mosque have had racing experience. In addition to these there are half a dozen "new blood," who will be got ready to sport silk. Mervette and . Valuation, who carry the colours of Mr. J. Fraser Smith, have been in the paddock in the interval since last raced. Both horses have done some work since coming'back and will be, got ready for the' Avondale fixture. , Mervette has well established her ability, but Valuation, although he , has won races, has not been so reliable. The Valkyrian gelding is a delicate sort, but this, his fifth- year, should find him more solid. Stonehenge and Mosque, who are raced by the Palmerston North sportsman, Mr. R. Porter, were showing form toward the latter end of last season. They are both by Feramorz from Marble Star. Stonehenge may do all right if put to the jumping game. Mosque, who scored at Taumarunui in May, suffered tendon trouble and had to miss the winter meetings, when likely to add to his earnings. He was blistered and has come back again to bo prepared for further racing. Looks in Great Order.

The Catmint—Ea' Aroha filly Imamint, who finished second in the Avqndale Stakes and third in the' Welcome Stakes in the spring, has not had the best of luck with, her two-year-old preparation. She is at present being given attention for a ruptured tendon sheath. Imamint has developed into a bonny filly, and if she can be got to stand to a serious -test she will prove a very useful three-year-old. , ■ King Val was formerly a member of J. Williamson's team, who did some racing as a two-ycar-old. He is one of i Valkyrian's stock, _and now a five-year-old. ( It cannot be said yet what him prospects arej as Tinker has had him only a brief time. Monetize is another of the , recent arrivals at the etablc. "" The . Paper Money—Ohiwi gelding, now a five-year-old, showed some form when in commission'earlier in his career. If he acts as generously in the future he will pay expenses. Page Boy is out of commission just at present owing to developing soreness. The Clemenceau —Tortrix gelding joined this stable early in the New Year from P. P. Claridge's Riccarton stable. Page Boy has proved a useful sort in his racing round the country districts of this province. He takes the eye as a sort who would develop great form as a jumper. '■'•}■;> Has Raced in Sydney. Another whom Tinker, will be giving attention to later on is Super Ruler, who was raced a few times from George Price's (Randwick) stable as a two-year-old last season. Super' Ruler has been gelded since his return to the Waikato. The Chief Ruler—Boynette three-year-old has been spelling of recent* weeks. He has shown speed in private and in public/ but, like others of the stock of his dam and her' family, will be at his best when his powers have had the benefit of maturing. ,

King Win, bred and owned by Mr. R. B. Hines, of Te Aroha, is a thumping bjg three-year-old. He is a descendant of the horse King Lu, and if he turns out anything like as good he will do. King Win had a few outings in twoyeartold company last season, but was not too tractable at the barrier. King Win is going to tak6 a good deal of time before he is fully equipped for racing. . The Limond—Noreen chestnut Kaha will be some time before he is ready for serious duty. Kaha has won on occasions since he has made the Waikato his headquarters,.but his form has not been particularly outstanding. The untried material in the stable has much to. recommend them on breeding lines, and it is i quite on -the cards that some useful gallopers will emerge after the moulding process of training. A three-year-old gelding by Top Gallant from Conceit, who has been spelled since joining the stable, was tried when originally taken over. He is a wellactioned youngster and an attractive looker. Mr. H. Rothery, who owns him, has also in the stable a gelding of similar age by Nassau from Opera, the latter a Comedy King mare,- This latter is a good-topped and clean-legged sort, and on blood lines should develop as a stayer. , ' A two-year-old by Aunsio from Pelt, owned- by Mr. H. D. Matthews, of Hamilton, ; will be a big horse when he fills out. He is particularly well quartered. '\ ■ ■ . A colt by Laekham from Persis is owned by Mr. Fraser Smith. This youngster is a compactly built type, and the relative to Royal Duke, Nucleus and The Fox has a lot to recommend, him on breeding. • • l A two-year-old filly by_ Warplane from Noretta, the latter a sister to Noreen, the dam of Kaha, has Musket arid St. Simon blood. She is small.but shapely, and will develop a lot. Mr. M. Shaw, the owner of Rage Boy, -has this filly for future racing. , . A full sister to Imamint is quartered at these stables, but this youngster has not-been handled yet. ' ■ .'.' :

Paganelli and Co. At Sunny side Lodge, Frankton,-where M. J. Carroll has his horses quartered, the work of getting the team ready for the, early racing of the hew. season is well in hand. , : . < Paganelli, the star performer of the stable, is.looking fresh and well, and has.already commenced• to move along freely on the training track. The Lord Quex— Ringdove gelding will be on hand for racing in the spring. This' season may find Paganelli giving more atten-tion,-to longer than sprint journeys. His early duty, however, is likely to be over six furlongs and classic races will again find him active.' Holly Holm, the three-year-old gelding by Acre from Great Effort, by Provocation—Effort, had a couple of outmg3 in -two-year-old grade last season. He was on the. small side then, but has developed at.lot in the off 'season, and like the others of the stable is in excellent condition to tackle a preparation. Gay Duke, the Lord Quex—Salvette four-year has thickened out, considerably, arid is now'a solid looker. He has been gome time in developing much, form, but age is likely to be beneficial to this galloper. \ / . Glena Bay, who partnered Paganelli in a respite of a couple of months in the Taranaki district, shows the benefit •of the change of atmosphere and fodder.

The- Romeo—Martigues gelding, who showed winning form as a jumper late in last season, should again be heard from.in this department. There is a colt, eight months old, who recently joined the stable from the Manawatu'who is an especially outstanding youngster. He is by Acre—Henmoana by Autumnus—Tangimoana (dam of The Swell). The juevenile is not only well developed for his age, but he is of splendid conformation, and possesses, among outstanding characteristics, a very intelligent head. . Trainer Carroll is very pleased with the colt and he* has every reason for it.
