THE FLOWER GARDEN.
Complete the pruning of Roses as soon as possible, except in cold frosty districts, where it is better to wait for a week or so. Plant new Roses so that they get a good root hold before summer. Prune hard either before or directly after flowering. Spray the plants lifter pruning. Use lime-sulphur one part to fifty parts of water. After pruning and spraying give a dose of manure and dig over the beds. Pansies, Violas, Ten-week* Stocks, Antirrhinums, Larkspur, Primroses, Carnations can be planted now. The cold weather in many cases has spoilt the Cinerarias. Further plantings can be made. Border Carnations . can be planted. Those already planted should be cleaned. Exceptionally good drainage is required and clean soil. They do well planted on a slight ridge. Chrysanthemum cuttings should be taken off as they become available. Sweet Peas must have the growths tied to the supports. Early flowering varieties will be coming into bloom. Should bud dropping occur, withhold liquid manure until the plants steady down. Summer flowering Sw.eet Peas that are growing in pots or boxes can be transplanted. 'Make the hole deep enough to take the tap root without bending it. / Seeds of half-hardy and tender annuals can be sown under glass.
