NEW ZEALAND ALLIANCE.
LONG AND VALUABLE WORK.
Feeling reference was made at a meeting of the Auckland council of the New Zealand Alliance to the death of Sir Robert Stout. It.was recalled that he had taken a very prominent part in the temperance movement in the early days'- of its history, being closely associated with Sir William Fox. Sir Robert retained his interest in temperance reform right up to the last/ and strongly supported the New Zealand Alliance in its endeavours to secure the abolition of the liquor. traffic from New Zealand. The following resolution was carried by standing vote:—"The Auckland council of the New Zealand Alliance desires to record its sincere appreciation of the long and Valuable service rendered to the temperance cause in New Zealand by the late Sir Robert' Stout. It recalls that during.the whole of his long life he advocated and practised total abstinence from the Use of intoxicating liquor and supported' the abolition of the licensed liquor traffic from the Dominion. The council extends deep sympathy to Lady Stout in her bereavement."
