REASON FOR HASTE.
TO PREVENT CLEARANCES.
"ONE'OR TWO GOT AHEAD."
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary, Reporter.) '. ' WELLINGTON, Tuesday. "The tariff resolutions anticipated the Budget to prevent abnormal bond clearances. That is the reason,"' said the Prime Minister in reply to questions.
The Rt. Hon. J. G.- Coatea, Leader of the Opposition: . But. one or tw,> got ahead of you. '
The Prime Minister retorted that with the whole question of taxation increases in the air there was great, danger that exceptional clearances from bond would be made.
Mr. H. G. Dickie (Patca):. They cleared the wrong stuff. (Laughter.)
The Prime Minister observed that his warning that alterations would be made retrospective had had a good effect; Abnormal clearances had been made in one or two cases only.
