A combined -evening arranged by. the Kingsland Methodist Endeavour and the Papatoetoe Methodist Young Peoples' Club was -held in the Methodist. Hall, Papatoetoe, last evening. The visitors - were welcomed by the Rev. A. W. Silvester. v The programme began with a . camp chorus and included games and competitions. Competition winners were Misses L. Tremain and H. The stallholders and helpers at the reecnt Paddy's Market were entertained at afternoon tea by members of St. Martin's organising committee on Wednesday at the residence of Mrs. C: Nairn, Wiiimaiiku. The, Fabian Society, held.its usual evening at Unity Hall on Saturday. Mr. Wilson gave an. appreciated address on "Socialism, the transition period," and also on experiences of his own among the poor in Glasgow and other big cities. Mrs. Axford was in the chair.

The Palais Theatre, Northcote, presented a merry scene on Monday evening, when Mrs. Burford, Queen Street, Northcote, gave a dance in honour of the twenty-first' birthday of her daughter, Doris. Balloons and streamers made a gay- show. Mrs. Burford received in cinnamon crepe de chine; Miss Doris Burford wore tinselled net over georgette. Among those present were: Mesdames Crawshaw, A. The fortnightly meeting of the Ponsonby branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in St. Stephen's Hall. Miss Head presided. It was reported that eleven ladies had helped at the W.C.T.U. stall at the Winter Show, and that a great many temperance pledges had been signed by children and young people. Miss Cox, secretary of the Grey Lynn branch, contributed a Song. Miss Pyfe, of Mount Albert, gave a talk on her Loyal Temperance Legion work *in connection with the school children of Mount Albert. The work there was most encouraging, and she was anxious to have similar classes started in the schools of other districts. Afternoon tea brought an enjoyable gathering 7 to a close.' ,
