Mrs. Cliff Sheath, of Wheturangi Eoad, returned to Auckland by the Niagara after a world tour extending over sixteen months. Mrs. Sheath departed from the usual tourist track and visited many out-of-the-way corners in various parts of the world. She spent some time in Egypt, crossing to Italy and Spain, where she. witnessed a bullfight at Madrid. Altogether Mrs. Sheath has visited thirty-sis countries and her experiences were extremely varied and interesting.

Miss Yuke Kiinura, the distinguished Y.W.C.A. secretary from. Japan, has been the guest of the Blockhouse Bay YW.C.A. hostel, and around her the girl citizens in discussion groups erf junior and seniors successively gathered in the last two week-ends. On the Saturday evenings the girl citizens were taught some Japanese songs.. Miss Yuke Kimura, who took the Sunday morning services, also addressed them an "The Girls of Japan" and "Best Ways Towards Help of World Fellowship." Over 70 girl citizens attended the juni&T discussion group and a like number the seniors.. .. .. .. , •..v— ■■ r Word has been received in Thames by Mr. and Mrs. H. D. M. Haszard, of the success achieved by their daughter, Mrs, Leslie Greener, who paints under her maiden name of Khona Haszard. In a letter received by Mrs. Greener, the Prince of Wales announced the holding of an exhibition of the work of" contemporary artists, the proceeds of which would be placed in a special fund in aid of the British Legion. The,exhibition was to be held in the Grafton Galleries, London. Such prominent artists as Mr. Muirhead Bone, Sir D. Y. Cameron, R.A., Sir George Clausen, R.A., Mr. Augustus John, A.R.A., Sir John Lavery, JiJL, Sir William Llewllyn, Sir William Orpen, and Professor William Rothenstein were represented.' Mrs. Greener was born at Thames in 1900, and in 1906, when her father was transferred to Canterbury as Commissioner of Crown Lands, she studied at the art school in Christchurch. lii 1925 she went to Paris and studied at the Aeademie Julian under M. Jean Paul Laurens. She travelled extensively in France, especially through the old battlefields, and last year the Auckland City Council purchased her "Valley of the Marne" for permanent exhibition in the Art Gallery. In 1927 she received a bronze medal for a picture she lent the British exhibition at Wembley. She is at present residing at Alexandra, Egypt, where her husband is on the staff of the .Victoria College.
