B FLUCTUATIONS IN SHARES. WEEK OPENS QUIETLY. COMMERCIALS WANTED. The feature of this morning's call was the sharp rise in the price of Commercial Banks, which were clull of sale last week at under £1 1/, and which had a sale this morning at £1 2/, with buyers still offer- F ing tile same money. This is .the result o the announcement, published m Saturday s "Star " that the directors will recommend the usual dividends at the annual meeting to be held shortly. In view of the attitude of other banks in reducing their rate of dividends, many investors held the view that the Commercials' board would follow c SU The increased firmness in Commercials did not extend to other banks. Bidding was hesitant, with £12/ the best oftei foi Australians of Commerce. . In coals, Pukemiro were easier, with sellers at £3 6/6. ... , , 17/ Consolidated Bricks were offered at I.'/ for the £1 shares. P. and 0. shares were a little firmer, with buyers at £2 3/9. Government Securities. Notification was received by the Exchange that the issue of the New Zealand g Government 5Vz per cent securities matin - ing on February 15, 1937, will cease as from the loth instant, and a new succession thereof, with interest of OV2 per cent and currency to September 1, 1937, will be available. This notification in 110 way meets the desire of Exchange brokers that 1 the Government should announce its intentions as to the amount it proposes to seek under these issues. There is 110 undertaking that the Government will not follow E the next issue with yet another one. At the Noon Call. A few extra sales were notified at the noon call. One of New South Wales Bank at £37 7/6 marks a drop of £1 in this scrip in less than a week. Commercials had another sale at £1 2/, after which the demand at this figure ceased, and buyers dropped back to £1 1/9. Devonport Steam were firm, with offers of £1 3/. whilst Goldsbrough, Morts eased, highest bidder stopping at £1 6/9. Mount Lyell rights showed a marked fall, with a sale at 2/1. SALES COMPLETED.
