SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A morning tea was given in the Tudor rooms recently, wlxen the hostess was Mrs. M. Hogan, who wore a cigar brown costume and beige velour hat. She entertained Mrs. A. Moore, who has left for the Islands. The annual prize-giving social of the Bivkenliead and Xorthcote Tennis Club, held in the Palais Theatre, Northcotc, was a great success. During the evening, the president, Mr. L. S. Maxwell, presented the Maxwell Gup to the winners of the championship doubles, Miss E. Major and Mr. W. Roberts. In addition, Miss Major was presented with a clock, set in mother-of-pearl, and Mr. Roberts with a gold-mounted tobacco pouch.

Mr. and Mrs. W. Holehouse, of Dorset Street, Grey Lynn, gave a party at the Domain Kiosk on Saturday evening, to celebrate the coming of age of their oldest son, Mi-.' Walter Holehouse. A bridge party was given on Saturday evening- by Major and Mrs. A. H. Wilkie, at their home in Bayswater, for the benefit of the relief fund connected with the Waitemata Women's Progressive League. Progressive bridge was played, the highest scorers being Mrs. Jensen and Major Cameron. Early spring flowers were arranged in the card-room, with some beautiful esprays of yellow jasmine. A social evening of the Everyman Repertory Theatre Society was held in St. Paul's Church Hall on Saturday. The hostess, Mifcs Roseanne Lovell, received in apricot satin. The programme was given by members of the society. Mr. Andrew Beresford gave a lecture, Miss R. Lovell recitations, Miss M. Ryan song, Mrs. Pilkington recitations, Miss O. McAneny song, Miss A, Heron recitations, Mr. A. Beresford Shakespeare recital, and Mr. Quartley an address. Supper was served at the conclusion of the programme, after which dancing and bridge took place. Among those present were: Mrs. A. Mauve pink and cream made up the attractive decorative scheme at the Renown Hall, Papatoetoe, on Saturday evening, Mien Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Long, of Papatoetoe, gave a twenty-first birthday party for their daughter Edna. A canopy effect was given by streamers and Chinese lanterns, and in the supper voom the table decorations were carried out in harmony with the general scheme. Coloured balloons were used, with green and floral spraye mounted on each of the programmes presented to the seventy-sis guests. Accompanying the programmes Were tri-coloured rosettes, in miniature, with a ticket of\ welcome. The programme included a violin solo by Mr. Owen White, and a recitation by Mr. Cyril White. Novelty competitions were won by Miss L. Lintan and Miss L. Edwards. A large cake was a central feature. The toast of the guest of the evening was proposed by Mr. F. Irvine. Miss Edna Long wore a frock of pale green floral crepo de chine, with diamante, and Mrs. Long, navy eharmelaine. Among the guests were: — Tihe B-ev. T. A dance was held in Taihape by the local golf club on Thursday night, the hall being gay with greenery, streamers and bunting. Supper was supervised by Mesdames A. F.' McKenzie, D. Neagle and J.
