ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
HELP FOR DUCHESS. Warning her that if she got into bad company he would have her brought back and deal with her in a different way, the Lambeth magistrate bound over the Duchess of Leinster for attempting to commit suicide by gassing herself in a Brixton flat. Mr. Marshall, for the defence,"announced that he had received several offers from friends of the duchess to take her and nurse her back to health. One of these offers came from a woman who had a large place in the country, and the duchess was quite willing to accept it. A letter had also been sent from the solicitors of the trustees of the Leinster estates, and Mr. Marshall remarked that the allowance which had been paid for some years would no doubt be continued. Addressing the duchess, the magistrate said: You will have to try and see that no nonsense happens again. The Duchess: It shall not. As soon as the duchess left the dock she went to an ante-rooin with her two women sureties and her solicitor. They remained there for about half an hour, during which time her mother, Mrs. Etheridge, and her aunt w r aited in the lobby of the court. When the party came down the duchess kissed her mother, and they walked quickly towards a saloon car. Before driving away she said to a reporter: " I have been tery unhappy, but I shall be very happy again now."
