BAY OF PLENTY POWER.

PROPOSAL FOB SEPARATE PLANT. ■ ' LICENSE NOT AVAILABLE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKI, Thursday. At the monthly meeting of the Bay of Plenty Power Board to-day the question of the board generating its own power was discussed. It was stated that the board could build a generating station on the Eangitaiki River at a cost of £56,000, the cost of the power being half what the board is at present paying the Government. A fully-developed scheme At a cost of £100,000, it was stated, would be able to supply almost three times the amount of current at present required by the board. The chairman, Mr. H. E. Hogg, said there was no chance at present of securing a license for such a scheme, but in the event of Arapuni being a complete failure they would probably have little difficulty in securing a license. The engineer and chairman were appointed to attend a conference of power boards at Hamilton. Mr. J. D. Dicker was appointed to represent the board at a conference of power engineers at Wellington. The Minister of Public Works, in reply to a request -by the board for recon-, sideration of the Government's charge for electricity, regretted he was unable to comply with the request, as concessions only applied Jo older boards, which originally took current from Horahora.
