RACING TAXATION.

RELIEF HOPED FOR. < BETTING BY TELEGRAPH. "ABSURD" RESTRICTIONS. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. In Ms address at the Racing Conference to-day, the chairman, Mr. O. S. Watkins, said that the Government had repeatedly been asked for a revision of racing taxation, but so far the appeal had not been successful. He hoped that if no immediate relief was to be given it would be favourably considered in the near future. The racing community trusted that during the present session the Government would repeal the Statute which prevented the telegraphing of investments on the totalisator to clubs on race days, and prohibited the publication of dividends. Those were absurd restrictions. It was customary, eaid Mr. Watkins, to give the amounts of the various taxes paid during the present and previous seasons. The figures were:— 1928-29. 1929-30. £ s. d. £ s. d.
