MAIN ISSUE UNDECIDED. MINOR PROPOSAL AFEROVBV WORK TO BE STARTED AT ONCE. , A total of £33,500 was involved/in two loan proposals for road improvements that were placed before ratepayers in the Newmarket borough yes-., terday. The returns for the larger issue, involving £29,000, will not be complete until late this afternoon. The minor issue was carried by a substantial majority. On the proposal to raise a loanvto acquire land for the widening of Station Street, the larger issue, the voting showed a margin of eight votes against the scheme, but there are 12 declaratory votes still, to come. Against 19b "' * The minor proposal was to raise £4500 to acquire properties at the corner-ol Gillies Avenue and Crowhurst Street ra order to straighten a bend in the road, and the voting was as follows: For the proposal 23Against 140 .
