PROPOSAL VOTED OUT.
WELLINGTON UNEMPLOYED. AWARD RATE OF WAGES. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. The City Council last night had bef ere it a motion from Mr. McKeen to pay the award rate of wages on standard works being carried out by loans subsidised by the .Government for unemployment relief. The question was fully debated and the motion was lost. The Mayor summed up the opposition when he said that if the proposal would give a solution of the unemployment problem he would supports it, but it would, not. It would accentuate it. It would ensure that other men would come to Wellington with the hope of getting higher wages. The voting was 10 against and four in favour.
