CHASED BY TWO CARS.
YOUNG LABOURER 'CORNERED' FINED £15 FOR "CONVERSION." (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Chased by two policemen in other cars, Edward Leslie Baker, aged 20, a labourer, who, about one o'clock this morning was seen driving a car which had been reported missing earlier in the evening, found himself cornered. -He jumped out and made over some back fences. It was useless, however, and he appeared in the Police Court later in the day. After hearing the probation officer Mr. E. Pago, S.M., remarked that quite a number of young housebreakers started tlieiy escapades by taking someone else's car. He imposed a fine of £15, in default two months' imprisonment. The line may be paid at the rate of £1 a week.
