FURTHER CLUES.
MATTER TO BE PURSUED.
MOUAT'S COUNSEL'S HOPES.
An intimation that the Monat petition would not be abandoned was given by Mr. Matthews in a brief statement to a "Star" representative. "The communication I received from Sir Thomas was a courteous one," h? said. "I realise that it is a tremendous thing to ask the Executive Council to sri aside the verdict of a jury, especially nr the man was only found guilty of manslaughter and not the major char,2". where a question of the extreme penalty would be concerned. At the same time, ccrtain further clues will be followed up and I hope eventually to establish hiinnocence."
