OLD SCHOOL BUILDINGS.

REPLACEMENT URGED. SCHOOL COMMITTEES', DECISIONS. There was a largo attendance of delegates at the annual meeting of the Primary School Committees' Association last evening. The president, Mr. S. E. Chappell, presided. A remit from the Newton School Committee. advocating • that the association urge the Education Board to have. the Newton West school demolished and an up-to-date building erected was fully discussed. Mr. C. Morris said that the child was the nation's greatest asset, and its health and comfort had to be considered as well as its mental welfare. In'raising the question of the NewtoifWest school he hoped to gain support for other committees in regard to out-of-date and inadequate eeßool buildings. The chairman pointed out that the Parnell, Richmond Road and Mount Eden schools were a'so in serious need of attention. The motion was carried. Further remits were passed urging the Department to-revise the regulations governing the subsidising of the transport of children who had a long distance to travel to school; and that better provision should be made for drinking-water at country schools, the tank * system being considered far from satisfactory from a health point of view. The following officers were > elected: President, Mr. S. E. Chappell; vice-nresi-dent, Mr. W. E. Hay; past-nresident. Mr. G. E. Spooner; editor of journal, Mr. G. Brownlee; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. Dixon; executive, Mrs. M. S. Benfell. Messrs. C. Morris. C. J. Lovoorove, R. Rew, A. Roberts and J. G. Turner. Ail address was given by Mi=. N. A.
