ESKIMO AND HIS DOGS.
DRAWS VERY HEAVY ENTRIES. GOOD WORK IN BOTH SECTIONS. Dear Boys and Girls, — Many entries were drawn by the puzzle which appeared in the Budget of June 4. Although the competition was popular with both juniors and seniors, Section A for those 12 and over was contributed to far more heavily than was Section B. The Eskimo seen in the picture was searching for a ship and his dog team, which consisted of eight dogs. Elsewhere on this page is a reproduction of the picture which shows the dogs clearly outlined. Many competitors outlined what they imagined to be animals, some stating that they found a dozen dogs, whilst one or two outstanding competitors drew more than 30 outlines which they took to be dogs. In the senior section all those who succeeded in finding eight dogs were selected from the competition pile and corrected separately. Some proved to have many of the dogs placed wrongly, but three of the entries, contributed by Rubie Lyndon, Leoni Woodlock and Madge Lynes, were all correct. Taking neatness into consideration, it was decided to award the 5/ prize to Rubie Lyndon, whilst the other two competitors were each given 2/6. A few correctly placed seven dogs in the picture, and these were next in line for prizes. Quite a number had some dogs correctly placed and from these entries the remaining four prize winners were chosen. Certificates were awarded to other good work contributed. Although no one in the junior section succeeded in finding all the dogs, two little contributors each found seven dogs. The first prize in this case went to Mabel Thomas, whilst Arthur Horry was awarded a 2/ prize. Noel Atkins and Tom Dickeson each outlined eight dogs, one of which was misplaced, whilst Edith Mason and Lewis Mosheim each found seven dogs, though one was in the wrong .position. * These little people were each awarded a. 2/ .prize, .ah extra prize being added to make things quite even. In both sections the . ' work was very well done. • : — Again you must search this page t * l for to-day's competitions, but these you m^l^S^^^ will find ever so interesting, and next * week we can again expect some very heavy entries. , . ■ t^^
