STATION SITE.

SUBDIVISION PROPOSAL.

TWO LEADING FEATURES.

EXTENSION TO CITY STREETS.

VIEWS OF TOWN-PLANNERS

A definite move bMs been made towards the ultimate lay-out and disposal of the present Auckland railway station site by the approval of a plan drawn by the Railway Department. The salient features include the extension of Commerce Street and Gore Street to Quay Street and a new road from Breakwater Road to meet the proposed Gore Street extension at a right angle.

The published p'an shows the bold outlines of the scheme. There will be no difficulties in connection with the extension of Gore Street right through the present station site, as the leases of buildings on the line have fallen due, and will not be renewed by the Auckland Harbour Board. The Northern Roller Mills premises are on the line of the Commerce Street extension. Two right-of-ways have been planned to run from Breakwater Road to Gore Street Extension, then on to Commerce Street Extension, to give light and air space between the proposed buildings, and buildings already facing Customs and Quay Streets.

The present plan is being considered by property-owners in the vicinity of the present Auckland railway station. It has yet to be considered by the Auckland Harbour Board, the town planning committee of the Auckland City Council, and the Auckland City Council.
