"WHOLESALE" MARRIAGE TO CREATE A NEW ITALY. —The simultaneous marriage of 70 couples at the Cathedral cf San Giust'o at Trieste, the centre of a post-war Italian province, during Easter is ot political importance inasmuch as it is a direct result of Dictator Mussolini s pronouncement that the future national welfare of Italy depends upon the family circle. Official Recognition was given by the attendance of Fascist and other chiefs of the province as witnesses at the Mass ceremony, after which the brides and grooms left en masse for a free honeymoon; where they were received by the Pope and Mussolini, the patrons of the scheme. It is hoped that it will be extended to other provinces. The picture shows a line-up of some of the seventy couples, who were drawn mainly from the working class.
