CASH AND CLOTHES.

TRAVELLERS' "BIG DRIVE."

ARRANGEMENTS IN HAND.

ASSISTING NEEDY AUCKLANDERS.

Auckland has been divided into 40 territorial sections for the Commercial Travellers' "cash and clothes drive" on Saturday, June 28. In each section 30 workers will be engaged, and altogether 500 motor cars will be in use.

An organisation elaborate in detail is being prepared, and many thousands of houses will be visited during the four hours, 8 a.m. to, noon, of the actual "drive." Each section will have its own f.epot and a central depot will he established in one of the Harbour Board's sheds on the Central wharf. Special telephones giving connection with the head office of the '"drive" committee will ensure efficiency over the whole area. Captains to take charge of the sections were appointed at the first meeting of organisers this morning. Mr. W. H. Prentice, chairman of the organising committee, presided. The other members of the committee are, Messrs. W. Thompson, E. Glover-Clark, and W. M. Ingram.' Mr. Prentice said "that, at the unanimous request of the charitable organisations of .Auckland, the association had undertaken the responsibility of a "cash and clothes drive" on bigger lines than those of previous years. A higher standard of efficiency would be the aim, and the proceeds should be correspondingly larger. Mr. Thompson, who will be in charge of the central depot, explained a system of organisation that would avoid overlapping. The clothes would be sorted dining the «.'eek following the "drive," at a central city warehouse. A permanent official would be in charge of the distribution of goods, and cash and assistance would be given only to those presenting bona fide authorities from the charitable organisations, Mr. Glover-Clark said that 2000 workers would be mobilised, and Greater Auckland, including the suburbs, as far as Manurewa on the south and 2sew Lynn on the west, and the Xorth Shore suburbs, would be thoroughly combed. At the last "drive" £t2,000 worth of clothes and £*2000 in eash were obtained. The association, as before, will act in the capacity of trustees for the public. It was decided to hold the next meeting of helpers at 11.30 a.m. on June 14 in the club's premises.
