Three Fall in Steeples. — Temperature, Matu a and Odin.

The programme opened with, the Tamaki Steeplechase, for which all the acceptors went to'the post. Master Lu ( £1267), Lucess ( £908) and Boomerday ( £60o) carried the bulk- of the money,, and the public were right on the mark. Lucilius fell at the first fence, and S:. Warrigal led up the hill from Lucess, Boomerday, Copey and Master Lu. The first fence on the hill saw Rahepoto come to grief, and passing the . St. Warrigal was showing the way to Lucess, Copey and. Boomerday, with Master Lu and Marita next. Boomerday made a faulty jump at the stone wall, and going up the hill the last time St. Warrigal was still in front of Lucess;' then came Master Lu, Copey, Marita and Boomerday, well back. Lucess ran to the front as they went down the hill, with Master Lu and St. Warrigal handy. Master Lu'challenged Lucess in the run home, and won by a length, with St. Warrigal ten lengths away. Marita was fourth and Boomerday next. Luminary Again. Spalpiko and Waltzer did not parade for the Orakei Hurdles, leaving six runners to contest that event. Luminary, who won on Thursday, was made second favourite, carrying £1468, and, taking the lead just after the start, was never headed. Carlaris, 'who carried £1552, was accorded most support, and he and the winner monopolised the betting. Quincoma was first out from Luminary, but the latter soon took charge and showed, the way out of the straight from Quincoma, Carlaris and Rongo. St. Ames fell at the first fence along the back. Luminary had' Rongo as his nearest attendant with Quineoma and Carlaris next,, and Respirator following. Carlaris fell ,at the hurdle by the fivefurlong post and Luminary showed the way across the top from. Rongo, Quincoma and Respirator, and they finished in that order, Luminary beating Rongo by ten lengths, with Quincoma forty lengths away and Respirator next. York Handicap. Havering was the only defection in the York Handicap, the principal' flat race of the day. Betting in this race was brisk, and when the machine closed most money (£1987) was invested on Seatown, with Standfast (£1800) and True Blood (£1215) next in demand. The winner, Maori Boy, carried £536, and paid a double figure dividend. When .they were let go Prince of Orange, Imperial Prince, Standfast and Kawainga were most prominent, but racing along the back Kawainga-, Imperial Prince and Prince of Orange were the leaders from Standfast, Bold Front, Lucy Rose, High Pitch, Scat, Pompeius and Maori Boy, then came Seatown, Valsier and True Blood. Kawainga was still in charge crossing the top, with Prince of Orange, Scat and Standfast next, then came Maori Boy, Luey Rose and Imperial Prince. Maori Boy took charge turning for home, followed by Kawainga, 'Prince of Orange, Lucy Rose and Standfast, "with Seatown coming through fast. Maori Boy held his advantage in the run to the post and beat Seatown, who was wide out, by- a" length, with Standfast a neck away. Nassock was fourth, followed' by Prince of Orange, Lucy R'ose, True Blood, High Pitch, Bold Eront and Pompeius.. The Winter Steeples.

All started in the- Winter Steeples, in which the public clected Ponjola favourite, entrusting him with £1979,. the next best backed' being Aurora Borealis (£1503) and Odin (£1107). Temperature led over the stand double from Ponjola, Kamehameha, Mashoor, Matu, Pendavies, Odin, Airtight and Auroia Borealis, with Young Thurnham last. Odin fell at the brush fence by the mile post. Mashoor was in charge as they ascended the hill the first time, with Pendavies, Temperature and Ponjola next. Temperature fell at the first fence on the hill, and passing the- stand the next time Mashoor led Pendavies, Ponjola, Aurora Borealis, Matu and Kameliameha, with Airtight nevt, .and, Young Thurnham last. Along the back Mashoor, Ponjola, Matu and Pendavies were the leaders, with Aurora Borealis and Airtight following. Ponjola made a bad jump at the. fenca by the seven furlong post, where Matu came to gne Mashoor still had charge the last time over the hill from Ponjola. Aurora Borealis, Pendavies and Airtight, kameliameha. balked at this stage, ant Aurora Borealis went to the front ant led down the hill from Mashoor, Ponjo." i and Airtight. In the turn for home Aui.-ra Borealis went on to win easily by fh i lengths from Mashoor, who beat Airtight by fifteen lengths. _ Ponjola was fourth, then came Pendavies, with Young Thurnham last.

A Small Field. Ivamehameha dropped out of the Campbell Hurdles, in which there were only five runners. Most money ( £2065-) was invested on Taumai, with Mister Gamp ( £1556) and Mangani ( £931) also in demand. Prince Lu was first out from Daylight, -Taumai, Mangani and Mister Gamp. Taumai was nearly down at the second fence, his rider making a great recovery. Prince Lu led past the stand from Taumai, Mangani, Mister -Gamp and Daylight, hut at the hurdle in front of the birdcage Mister Gamp fell and Daylight toppled over him. . Prince Lu was still bowling along in front, with Mangani and Taumai handy, as they ran along the back, and Mangani ran up to Prince Lu and was alongside him clearing the second to last fence. Mangani ran clown the final jurat) and stumbled, dislodging his rider, and Prince Lu looked to have the race won, but Taumai finished on and heat him by a length.
