PENTECOST OBSERVANCE.
UNITED CHURCH SERVICE.
'*?WE ARE ALL ONE," SAYS MR
FLETCHER,
"Let us sink our petty differences, foi;£et all distinctions of creed and sect, and try to remember that at bottom we a*e ; all one," said the Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher, when addressing a congregation of about 1000 people in the Auckland : Tabernacle. It was a service of virions churches held in preparation for tbc 1900 th anniversary of Pentecost.
Nearly every denomination was represented in the gathering on Monday -Dr. J. J. North presided. The first speaker was the Rev. R. C. Roberts, of Mount Eiden Congregational Church, who dealt •with the historical meaning of Pentecpsfc which, he said, was the day on ■which the Christian Church was born. The observance of Pentecost was, there'ifore, an essential part of the Christian ■religion.
Mr. Fletcher urged every man and woman 'to make a personal preparation for the reception of a message from the Holy Spirit. He made it quite clear that js. was not to be thought that the acceptance of the Holy Spirit meant some great involuntary transfiguration, which would enable a man, without any personal effort, to lead an altered life. On the contrary, ft meant a humbling of self and a candid confession' of sin. "We must all realise our faults and strive to alter our ways before the .Holy Spirit can help us," said Mr. Fletcher.-
