CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday.

In a 10-rounds welter-weight boxing contest this evening, S. Hughes (Otago), 10.4, won on points from W. Carey (Canterbury), 10.3. Hughes "won because of his initiative, though this was to some extent offset by Carey's doggedness. Hughes held, the advantage in the concluding rounds and the bout ended tamely.
