, Mrs. Harold Gunn was hostess at a gift afternoon on Saturday at her residence,, Charlton Avenue, Mount Eden, in honour of Miss Isa Munro, who is to be married shortly. Those present were: Mesdames E. A. Munro, Frank Stevens, Wilson (Hastings), and Misses Rene Storrie, Anne Storrie, N. wThe Papatoetoe Methodist Church held a social in the local Methodist Hall last evening in aid of the church funds. Tjhe Rev. A. W. Silvester presided over, allgood attendance. During the evening a> .'programme was given by Mrs. Christum (vocal solo), Miss Kerr (violin solo) arid Misses D. and B. Messer (elocutionary items). Miss D. Hughson, Mrs. McDonald and Miss E. *The third: fortnightly dance of the ® Hply Trinity Social Club was held in the Parish Hall, Otahuhu, last evening; wien Mi\ Maurice Seel's orchestra played a£i good selection of old-time and jazz niimbers to- a good attendance of membeys. During'the evening the club president-, Mr. H. Lovell, took the opportunity back the patron, the Rev. C|?:B. W. Seton, who has now recovered from his. recent illness. The Monte Carlo won by . A • very enjoyable handkerchief evening was given by .Mrs. Roy Burrett at hsr home in .Victoria Avenue, Remueia, last night in honour of Miss Rita Ashton, whose marriage .takes-'place shortly. The rooms were delightfully decorated with autumn shaded flowers, and' on -the suppei table mauve flowers were artistically arranged. Bridge was played during the evening. Mrs. Burrett received in' a frock of floral ninon with gold bridge coat. Miss Ashton was in black tafi'eta with large rose pink- bow on hip. Among those present were: Mrs.'Frank Ma'cky, Mrs. Ernest Alison, Mrs. &. R. Norris, Mrs. Jefferson, Mrs. Don Watson, Mrs. Claude White, Miss Edna Rhodes, Mips Enid White, Miss Janet Clarkson, and Miss Rita Cornaga.

Mrs. H. E. Vaile, of "Glade Hall," Gillies Avenue, was hostess recently for a merry party in honour of her youngest daughter, Mere. The large verandah was closed in, and decorated in tones with pink lights, balloons and dainty foliage for dancing, the drawing room and ] ibrary were decorated with : autumn leaves and gold . chrysanthemums, and the* supper table in the dining, room looked artistic with pink zinnias and high rose bowls, with silver- shadedcandelabra.
