"SMUGGLED IN."

WITHOUT A PERMIT. CHINESE TO BE DEPORTED. "This is one of the number of Chinese who were smugggled into the Dominion four years ago from Australia," said Mi. J. Mcintosh, Collector of Customs, at the Police Court this morning when he prosecuted Chang Joe on a charge of entering New Zealand without a permit. Joe pleaded guilty. Mr. Mcintosh added that Chang Joe said he paid £150 to an agent in Australia to get to New Zealand. "We know that some of them have been coming here by such means," added Mr. Mcintosh. Chang Joe was fined £10 by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., and ordered to be deported.
