A PING PONG MARKER OF LEATHER.
Many boys and girls indulge in the game of ping pong. As a matter of fact, this game seems to be getting more popular of late. The ping pong marker herewith illustrated should be useful for people who are fond of this game; it is also very easy to make. The marker can be made up on stiff cardboard as a base, and can be suspended from the wall on a ribbon. To make the marker first cut the piece of leather you are going to use to a size large enough to cover ime piece of stiff cardboard to be used as the backing, while leaving about an inch of margin all round to be turned over and glued down on the back of the card. Trace the pattern on the leather, cut the lines firmly, half through the thickness of the leather, and open them with the tracing tool, being careful to keep
the parallel lines of the steins true. The floral part of the design must then he raised and well stuffed from the under side of the leather and slightly modelled. The letters should be kept flat with a tooled line on the shadow side of -each letter. The ground must then be punched equally or the leather will he apt to pull in one part more than another. The spaces to he used for writing 'On should then be cut out, using a sharp penknife and ruler. Damp the knife so that the edges of the leather will be smooth. A piece of vellum would look well fastened on the stiff cardboard so as to show through the openings in the leather, and this should now be damped and placed over the card with glue, which must not be too hot, otherwise the leather will spot. Should loose eheecs of paper or vellum he used, fasten the leather on to the cardboard as before, then with a penknife cut two elite the length of the opening at the lower edge of the marker, and slip up the vellum 01 paper as a photograph -would be inserted into a frame. When the back has been covered either with a nice piece of paper or doth the marker is finished, unless you wish to colour the leather. In this case be sure to wash the leather before applying the colonr.
