CROCHET JACKET FOR YOUR DOLL.
Dolls, like babies, look far nicer an woolly garments than in any others. At the Royal Show there were numbers of dressed dolls to be m the women's exhibits, but those m woolly garments looked by far the best. Here are the directions for making a charming crochet coat for your doll. You will require loz of 3-ply wool, a small bone crochet hook_ and a small ball of wool for the edging. First Row.—Make 70 chain; measure this round the body of the doll; increase or decrease this number of chain, whichever is found necessary, to fit the doll; allow for a little fulness. Second Row.—3 ch., turn, miss 5 ch., into 6th ch., make 2 tr., 3 ch. and 1 d^C., miss * 2 ch. into the next ch∈ crochet 2 tr., 3 ch., 1 d.c.; repeat from * to the end of the row. Third Row.—3 ch., turn; * 2 tr. ; S ch., 1 d.c. into the first loop of 3 ch. in previous row. Repeat from * to the end of the row. Repeat this row 8 or 10 times until it is necessary to begin to shape foi the armhole. Begin the next row with 3 ch. to turn, then work 4 patterns (that is, 2 tr., 3 ch., 1 d.c., 4 times); turn the work with 3 ch. and repeat the 4 patterns; 3 ch., turn, work 3 patterns; repeat 4 or 6 times till the necessary depth of the armhole is obtained; finish off securely and break the wool. Work the other armhole in the same way on the opposite front. To Shape the Back. Miss one pattern for the underarm shaping, crochet across the back to within one pattern of the other armhole; 3 ch. to turn, and work 2 more rows across the back, each time leaving one pattern at the end of the row; then work without decreasing as many rows as on the two fronts. Stitch about 1 inch in each front of the shoulder to the corresponding parts of the back, thus completing the armholes. The Sleeves. Beginning at the base of the armhole crochet into the first loop of 3 ch. the pattern as before, i.e., 2 tr., 3 ch., 1 d.c. Continue the pattern, without, turning, until the sleeve is the required length. Make the other sleeve in the same way. With the wool of the contrasting colour, work an edging round the wrists and all round the coat, thus, 1 d.c., 2 cli., 1 d.c., 2 ch. Make 100 ch. of-the same wool, thread it through the neck to act as a drawstring, and finish with tassels.
