London hag a cabaret artist who is in his seventy-eighth year, and who boasts the deepest bass voice in the world. He is Grigori Makaroff, formerly opera star of the Russian Imperial Theatre, who is now singing in hotels, restaurants, revues, and concerts, and his voice is still magnificent. Makaroffs career has been a series of amazing successes and misfortunes. Admiral Beatty met him at the Royal Palace and invited him as a guest on H.M.s. Lion, while the warship was in Russian waters during the war. _ When the revolution came he was a millionaire' with many houses and servants. He was imprisoned by the Soviet, and his wealth confiscated. Escaping, he came to England ten years ago. "The first fifty years of an artist's life are the hardest," is what he told the "Sunday Dispatch"
