POOR AND NEEDY.
CASH AND CLOTHES DBIVE. PROPOSAL IN" AUCKLAND. At a meeting last night the committee of the Auckland Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association and representatives of several charitable bodies decided to organise a "cash and clothes drive," the proceeds to go to the poor and needy of Auckland. The need for providing the poor with clothing was stressed by Major Gordon, of the Salvation Army, who stated that the position was worse than it had been for some years. Captain T. Holmes, also of the Salvation Army, paid a tribute to the splendid work done by the association in their last drive. Clothing supplied by the association, had been distributed to 200 families. Messrs. W. H. Prentis, A. Thompson, R. Glover Clark and W. M. Ingram are organisers of the proposed drive, and it was decided to appoint an executive from the social workers' societies to co-operate with the organisers. The first duty of that executive would be to form a scheme ensuring proper distribution. It was decided to invite all charitable and social organisations to take part in the drive.
