TAIHAPE AFFAIRS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAIHAPE, Wednesday. At the usual weekly meeting of the Rugby Union a reply was received from the Borough Council refusing the union's offer of' £75 for the hire of the grandstand for the season, the previous offer from the council being £100. _ As it has been admitted in open council that the rental of £100 would perhaps leave the union a surplus of £12 15/ on the season's takings, members were of the opinion that the margin of profit was not sufficiently large, and it was proposed by Mr. C. Murphy that a committee -be set up to _ inspect suitable playing areas in the vicinity of the town with the object of playing matches elsewhere. The motion having been carried by one vote, Messrs. J. Quirk, J. McDonald, V. C. Nicholls, C. Murphy and A. P. Pirritt were appointed. It is understood that a notice of motion is before the council, to be determined at its next meeting, that the Rugby Union be granted 25 per cent of the gross grandstand takings.
