A very successful bridge evening was held at the Manchester Unity Hall last Thursday for Miss K. Molloy, independent candidate for St. Patrick's Popular . Girl contest. The bridge prizes were won by Mrs. Keenan, Miss Mahoney, and Mr. Williams. The 500 prize was won by Miss Hauslin. J • * * • Mrs. R. Taylor. •■• * « The committee and members of the Pupuke Golf Club entertained Mr. and IVt Mrs. Mingay at a bridge party last Friday night in the Gas Company's rooms at Takapuna as a farewell before they leave on a visit to Vancouver, which they intend doing on May 6. During the interlude for supper the Mayor, Mr. Julius Williamson, was called upon to make a presentation on behalf of the club to Mr. Mingay. Mr. Williamson spoke in eulogistic terms of the work and interest that Mr. Mingay, as a pastpresident, has given to the club, which owes a great deal of its present state of wellbeing to his help and advice. On behalf of the club and himself he wished both Mr. and Mrs. Mingay a pleasant and successful trip and a safe return to the Pupuke links, where they had „so many friends. Mr. Mingay replied on ■behalf of Mrs. Mingay and himself. The Mayoress, Mrs. Williamson, presented Mrs. Mingay with a bouquet of shaded African daisies and ferns. An enjoyable dance and 500 tournament was held'in the St. Andrew's Hall, New Lynn, by the New Lynn Bowling Club. Refreshments , were served by Mesdames Laing, Broun, Overington and Piatt, and Messrs. Witham and Meese organised the 500 tourney. Mrs. Culpit and Mr. Collard won the two prizes. • « * * The first exhibition to be held by Auckland women artists will open in Miss Johnson's Dancing Studio, 240, Queen Street, on Monday afternoon. Sydney has a women painters' society, and other New Zealand cities support their own artists. This exhibition should attract those in search of inexpensive original pictures. Hitherto, Auckland artists have had no opportunity of showing in an exhibition of this kind. Itwill be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Saturday, inclusive.
