NORTH AUCKLAND COUNTRY.
FUTURE CITY OF WHANG ARE I ' MINISTER'S PREDICTION. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") - WHANGAREI, this day. j Several deputations met the Minister of Lands, tie Hon. G. W. Forbes, last evening in Whangarei. Mr. A: J: Murdoch, member for Marsden, said the North was extremely pleased in having Mr. Forbes visit the territory, which stretched for two hundred miles north of Auckland. Mr. Forbes said that; he recognised that this district had it& own particular problems, but since he ha'd seen it'in 1904 as a member of the Lands Commission, the North had made wonderful progress. He was quite satisfied that North Auckland was one of the most promising fields in. New Zealand for greater production, especially in view of the facf that fertilisers were now being extensively used. ' For the past ten years, sard . the Minister, population in towns and cities had been increasing and that of the country had been falling off. It was .the Goveqrnment's desire to have the position the-other way round.. "Whangarei had been called a smaller Auckland, but at the rate at which it'was increasing it was possible that it would become the city of -:£her North.
