STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

(By "WHALEBONE.") Lady Court showed a lot of pace in the Victoria Handicap on the second day of the Auckland meeting, finishing fourth to Green Linnet, Love Song and King March. She was one of the leaders in that event till well into the straight, and yesterday annexed the Nursery Handicap at Avondale in good style. This is her first success, and she should be a useful sort next sea^pn. u Operatic again had to be content with second place to Sir Mond at Avondale yesterday. He was always prominent throughout the running of the Dominion Handicap, and when the straight was reached took charge, but had no chance with the winner over the last 100 yards. Operatic, who'is as yet a green horse, should turn out more than useful next season. Prince of Orange ran two good races at the Waikato meeting and his effort in finishing close up fifth in the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie recently was most impressive. He was well supported for the Waitakere Handicap at Avondal? yesterday, and after being prominent all the way, managed to get his head in front on the post. Prince of-Orange is a good sort, and though he had to fight out a great finish with Tenakoe, he stuck to his task gamely. v, . • Roman Abbey looked an improved horse as the result of his racing in the Brighton Hurdle Eace at Ellerslie, and he was strongly supported for the Hobsonville Hurdles at Avondale yesterday. He was soon in front, but came to grief at the third obstacle. Roman Abbey should be in good form by the time the Auckland meeting comes along. He performed well in these events last season, finishing second in the Great Northern Hurdles and occupying a similar position in the Great Northern Steeplechase.

Vali was always prominent in the running. of the Autumn Handicap at Avondale yesterday. He looked as though he would win a furlong from home, but he could not quite maintain 1 his effort, and finished fourthLady Quex won the All-aged Stakes at Avondale on Saturday with 9.5, and yesterday she had 9.10 in the Mount Eden Handicap. She was soon in front, but before the turn was reached had dropped back a bit. Gray then brought her through again and she looked as though she would be the winner about .a hundred yards from home, but Royal Parade, to whom she was conceding 271b, then put in a brilliant run, and ran past her to score by three-quarters of a length. However, it was a really good performance on the part of Lady Quex. The hurdles at Avondale required jumping, and in consequence some.of the lens experienced competitors found them a good test of their ability in this respect. Only, four finished on the first day, and the event was won by Airtight, who had proved himself over the Ellerslie country the previous week, when he accounted for the Mangere .Steeplechase. Kauri Park was second to Omeo in the Autumn Steeplechase on the second day at Ellerslie, and he acounted for the hurdles at Avondale yesterday. He was patiently ridden, and stayed on too Avell for the others over the last bit. Sir Mond again registered another easy . victory at Avondale yesterday when he accounted for the Dominion Handicap. He was always handy, and easily settled the opposition over the last bit. -Sir Mond has run very consistently since he returned to racing at the last Takapuna meeting, for previous to winning his double at Avondale he was placed on four occasions. Now that he has broken his maiden status, Sir Mond is likely to win further good races. He is by Seremond, who has sired some speedy ones in Australia.

| Hipo, who is now in his eleventh year, carries his age well, and he looked in great condition at Avondale. yesterday he was a starter in the Waitakere Handicap, and came tr;rougli to get third position. It would not be surprising to see the old fellow again on the winning list shortly. Eager Rose ran two great races at Avondale, and her efforts were worthy of better results. On the first day in the Foley Memorial she and Eaglet made the pace till well into the straight, and she was beaten into .fourth place. Yesterday she was always prominent, but White Fang headed her in the last bit. White Fang was never closer than about seventh in the Foley Memorial on the first day at Avondale, and was one of the last to finish. Yesterday he was in about a similar position when the field turned for home, and galloped over everything at the finish tb score comfortably by a neck. There is no doubt this horse has a lot of pace when he can be got to do his best. Mountain Guide should be a good proposition during the Great Northern meeting. He has been second in his last four starts over hurdles, and by the manner in' which he negotiated the obstacles at Avondale he should not be long off the winning list. At the Waikato meeting he finished second to Glena Bay in the Raglan Hurdles, was second to Star Com'jj in the St. Helier's Hurdles at Ellerslie, while at Avondale he occupied a similar position to Airtight on the first day and Kauri Park on th<» second day, only being beaten by a neck in each of his last two efforts. Royal Parade finished a good second to Awarere in the Railway Handicap on the first day of the Avondale meeting, and in consequence was made favourite for the Mount Eden Handicap, the chief sprint race yesterday. He began well but had fallen back by the time the straight was reached. However, he then again comm jnced to improve his position and putting in a great run, scored well. Paoanui, the dam of Royal Parade, was a useful mare in her day,, and Royal Parade looks as though he will win more good handicaps next season. i
