RACING AT AVONDALE,

THE AUTUMN MEETING. GRAND TEA SURPRISES. RETURNS LONG ODDS. A JOCKEY SUSPENDED. Fine weather favoured tlie Avoudale Jockey Club for the concluding day of their autumn meeting, which was held yesterday. There was a good attendance. and the course was in good order. During the l mining of the Nursery Handicap, "Valley and Set Fair fell just after turning into the straight. Set Fair broke her neck, hut her jockey, T. Hetcalf, was uninjured. However, Ct J. White Fang, who has brought off several surprise victories, added another yesterday when he scored in the Autumn Handicap, in which he was sixth fancy, and returned close on double figures. Le Clioucas and Prince of Orange \vere the only scratchings, and Eager Rose wound up favourite carrying £1027. Vali was entrusted with £822, Paitonu £804, and the winner, White Fang, £372. When the barrier wad released Royal Doulton was turned sideways on and was badly left. Gemlight was first out. from Eager Eose, \ ali, True Blood, Lucy Rose, Kawainga, Owairaka, Flying Julefc and, White Fang, this being the position along the back where Paitonu fell. In the straight Vali first looked a winner, then Eager Eose, but White Fang put in some great work over the last hundred yards and got up to beat Eager Eose by a neck, with Lucy Eose, who was a long way back at the home turn, finishing well, and only a head away. Yali was fourth followed by Boyal Doulton, True Blood. Flying Juliet and Prince Val. Hastings Trainer's Double.. The Hastings trainer, W. C. Griffiths, whfr saddled up White Fang in the Autumn Handicap, also supplied the winner of the second "leg" of the double in Boyal Parade, who put up a good performance to win the Mount Eden Handicap. He started favourite, carrying £1005, second fancy being Lady Quex, £941, and the pair filled the leading places at the finish. At the start Gold Money was badly left, and Lady Quex was first away from Eoyal Parade and Awarere, but the position soon altered, and when the top was reached Awamutu was out in front from "Awarere, Lady Quex, Valuation, Eoyal Parade and Hoariri. Branson put in a » run and was up third behind Awamutu and Awarere turning for home, with Gold Money, Lady Quex, Valuation and Eoyal Parade next. Lady Quex and Awarere were fighting out the issue when Eoyal Parade came along with a fine run, and settling the opposition, he won by three-quarters of a length from Lady Quex, with Awarere a length away. Valuation was fourth, with Awamutu, Brnnson, Gold Money and Hoariri following.

A Big Dividend. Favourites were well beaten in the Mount Koskill Handicap, which was won by a rank outsider in Grand Tea. who carried only £47 10/ and paid over three score. I'm Alone was the favourite,, with £1521, others to get backing being Motere (£1017) and Spring Abbey (£489). Lucky Alice was in the lead crossing the top from Neil, Avoncourt, Carl Idem, I'm Alone, Currajong, Kairuri and Grand Tea. Into the straight the order was Lucky Alice, Avoncourt,. Carl Idem, Currajong and I'm Alone. In the straight Grand Tea came from the ruck, and finishing in great style, he won by a length and a half from Avoncourt, with Carl Idem three-quarters of a length away. I'm Alone was fourthj with Motere, Lucky Alice and Haviland following. Tlie Concluding Event. Mithra was the only withdrawal from the Morningside Handicap, with which the meeting concluded. Standfast (£1093), CynthiaT iSf (£964) and King Emerald (£079) were most in request. Eacing along the back, Honiton had charge from Sea Cob, Page Boy and Standfast. Page Boy ran to the front half a mile from home, and showed the way into the straight from Honiton, Sea Cob, King Emerald, Kespirator and The last-named finished best, to win by a short head from Cynthia N, with Honiton three-quarters of a length awav 3 third.
