ON 'CHANGE.

FLUCTUATIONS IN SHARES. BUSINESS MODERATE. MARKET UNCERTAIN. A fair number of sales were recorded yesterday after the "Star" went to press, but the market tone is anything but keen. Investors are standing off, and at this morning's call there were no buyers for many of the lines that are usually in steady request. The _ banking section still commands moet interest, but even in bauk shares there is no real steadiness in the 'market. Fresh evidence in this connection is found in a sale of Commercials at the new low-figure of £1 1/3. Devonport Steam and Kempthorne Prossers both sold at lower rates, bringing* the scrip closer into line with the higher interest rates now ruling. Investors appear to be concentrating more on Goverhment stocks, for which there is a steady demand, and a buyer of 4 Mi's had to pay 2/6 above last sale price to get the parcel. The Noon Call. During the course of the morning business brightened up and there were a number of sales ready for report at the noori. call, while others were finalised in the room. New Zealand Breweries were easier with a sale at 9d under the last local transaction just before the Easter vacation. The keenness of the demand for Government stocks, and particularly for the 4Ws, was exemplified in a sale of this '38 issue at £97 17/6, which is 7/6 above the rate ruling a few weeks back.
