CHARITY CLUB.
The Retail Shop Assistants' Charity Club held the first of their weekly series of dances last evening in Scots Hall. The function drew a large number of dancers. This club's work is widely known in Auckland, the money raised being distributed through the Social Workers' Association, but any individual bona-fide case receives immediate relief from the committee. The needy shop assistants' fund is contributed, to from these weekly dances, and is held in reserve for the shop assistants or their immediate dependants. In three years the sum of £2000 has been given away, exclusive of the money used for Christmas gifts for the children at the orphanages of all denominations. Pirate Ship orchestra supplied excellent dance items, the simple decorations of the hall consisting of spot lights and clusters of balloons. Some dainty evening frocks were worn by the committee: Miss Purcell (secretary), black satin, shoulder spray; Miss Steinmetz assistant-secretary), Hack lace appliqued in flowers; Mrs. M. Thompson, black velvet and lace; Mrs. Burgess, black ninon trimmed with henna; Miss > Christie,"" cream net and small ribbon frills; Miss Littlejohn, powder blue embossed chenille; Miss Goodwin, pastel pink georgette; Miss Edgecumbe, bronze brown chiffon; Miss Cunningham, ,pale pink taffeta.
