OLD THAMES GIRLS.

At a large and very jolly gathering of the members of the Old Thames Girls' Association held in the Pitt Street Methodist Hall yesterday afternoon, the birthdays of two of the earliest members of the association were celebrated. The guests of honour were Mrs. Smith, who was 89 yesterday and Mrs. Dewar, whose 96th birthday takes place on April 18. Each of the ladies was presented with a beautiful bouquet, and in presenting them, Mrs. A. Oldhani, president of the association, extended to them the congratulations and best wishes of all those present. She referred to their.early days spent at the Thames

I and also of their association with the Old Thames Girls' Association. Short speeches in Teply were made by both Mrs. Dewar and Mrs. Smith, the latter also reading a poem entitled, "The Old Year'-s Milestones." A guest of the association was also Miss .A. Ahier, niece of Mr. C. Ahier, an old Thames identity, who returned last year from Jersey, Channel Islands, and who is now resident in Auckland. A short appeal in aid of the obstetrical fund was made by Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, jjvho briefly outlined the objects of the movement. Mrs. J. A. Bradstreet, president of the Y.W.C.A., and the Rev. T. R. 3. Wool- \ loxall, who used to reside in Thames, < both spoke and wished the association : every success for the future. A short I musical programme was enjoyed. Songs were given by Mrs. de Berg, vocal duets by the Misses Entrican and a pianoforte solo by Mrs. Cyril Firth. "Auld Lang Syne" was sung at the close of the-pro-gramme, all those present taking part. Afternoon tea dispensed by the energetic social committee concluded a very happy afternoon.
