TE AROHA NOTES.

The racing given The Lamb at Paeroa and Tauranga has effected a decided improvement in his condition. Superfluous flesh has been.removed, and the Lord Multifid gelding is doing his work in good style. „ • •'■'.' Archeen, who holds his condition really well, is to be sent up; to the Whangarei meeting next week, and will then be taken over by his new owners, who purchased the Marble Arch gelding at a very moderate figure, , and should soon get a return for the outlay.

gir Russell is thickening out in a manner by liL lessee-trainer, and the ■ Archies town gelding is looking better than at any time previously this season. His next engagement will be at the Waikato' meeting, where oiK the; roomy.To Eajpa track he niay be expected to run prominently. Taumai is recovering slowly} from the effects of the fall he sustained at Paeroa, but will not be on the tracks again foxsome time. ;

G'lenison did npt appear to stay on well, even over five furlongs, in the Trial Plate at Tauranga. But there is probably an excuse on this occasion, for. during the race the filly twisted two; of her'racing plates, a-nd was therefore considerablyhandicapped in. puttingin her final run. Trainer. Rhode's Wallace had White Ringlet at Tauranga, but she could not be started there on account of a bruised foot. The wisdom of . withdrawing her was evident at Opotiki on Wednesday, when she accounted for the Domain Handicap." : : , . During the absence of-M. L. Lipsey at Opotiki with Taurimu, Mr. G. McSheffrey's Grand Arch is at his owner's property, Waihou. The Marble Arch representative has been.running without luck lately;.but h.e is such a fine jumper that he should score a win in the near future. '

R. B. Hines intends to winter King Win, and as Balfour and Art Gallery are running out, he, will not have any horses in work until next spring. All is not well with Balfour, for he appears to have some internal trouble, while the Lucullus —Pictwv. filly injured -her hocks last week by coming in contact with a fence. ,'Volimond is now in better form:than at-any time previously this season, and shows every indication of being able to, nut out seven furlongs. The Liniond mare failed badly at Tβ Rapa in November last, but is practically certain to run ,iu much improved style there next month.'

The schooling of Town; Bird over jumps has resulted in ah improvement in his staying ability. In the Greerton Handicap, of seven furlongs, at Taura-,ga, his rider inade far too much use of hiin in the early, stages, but qapably ridden by Chandler in the ' six; furlongs Flying Handicap- he ran a good'winning race. Now that lie has struck form more wins may be registered by him..

After running a fair race in the Ohinemuri Cup Antique has been improving, and his .track work indicates that, he may soon be in the' money again.: "His work lately has been of the half-pace and sprinting order,, but lie is thriving on,it.

Since joining 6. A. -Reid's stable Valstreet has been doing good work,'and it is hoped that his barrier waywardness will soon be changed for the better. The Valkyrian gelding is . settling ' down nicely, and there is no reason Avliy he should not be a payable proposition.'

Track work yesterday was done on the outside of the course proper. Sir Russell was sent two rounds at an easy gait. Gold Day slipped ,over four furlongs in 50 l-ss, and Volimqnd ran. three in 395. Honiton,< who is. in nice trim, executed a satisfactory six furlongs, and Antique, after cantering .a. round, ran half a mile in 60s. Lucky Alice, who has built up materially of late, was allotted slow , work'., over two circuits. Glenstar went two miles, and Archeen ran four furlongs in 51s with case. Valstreet cantered six furlongs .and rushed home over two .furlongs in a very taking style. Ah Wera put in a solid three-quarter-pace round in a very , ' willing manner. There is no fault to find .with' his condition. .
