ATTACK IN VICTORIA AVEN"E

ESCAPE IN MOTOR CAR

A handbag was snatched from a lady in Victoria Avenue, Remuera, last even-, ing, by one of two men who were using a car which, it is thought, had been stolen from a city street. As .the man snatched the bag from the owner, Miss J. E. McDonald, of 55, Victoria Avenue, his companion drew up , slowly in the car and,' picking him up,, drove swiftly. a>ay. McDonald was overtaken by a car. She did not pay much attention to the car, but noticed that the near door was open and that one of the two men inside appeared to be reading the number of the houses. , .. ■ ,

When the car reached the foot of the avenue, one of the men got out, the car turned, and started up. the street: again. The man who had alighted walked up /the road, and when close to Miss McDonald . suddenly staggered in front of her.. As she stepepd aside, he snatched the light evening-bag . which she was carrying. The street was- fairly 'dark and there are several tree's at the side of the road. She noticed, •however, the last two figures of the registration number- on the car (a coupe, painted a dark colour), and these tally with those of a car which was stolen a short time previously from, a city street. ■ • ■ - '
